Creating Sensory Rich Experiences in Early Learning

Jill shared her knowledge and expertise in creating outdoor learning experiences for our youngest students that follow the qualities of big body play, increased sensory input and places to problem solve, connect and challenge.  Students utilized sticks, planks, milk crates and burlap to create forts and obstacle courses.  They used mallets to hammer sticks into the ground and smash colourful ice blocks.  Students created “soup” and “cake” in the snow and ice kitchen and developed their balance skills on a slackline and swing created from ratchet straps.  These activities allowed students to problem solve and collaborate.  Several areas of the Kindergarten curriculum were uncovered through student wonderings, investigations and explorations while outside.   A big thank you goes out to Jill Bienenstock for working with the educator teams and students to create a rich experience for all involved.
